Tasting notes :
Eye : pale golden yellow, clear and bright, with golden highlights.
Nose : expressive notes of fresh pear and plum stone, with floral hints and a spicy touch of clove.
On the palate : clean, with notes of white-fleshed fruit combined with woody hints.
Finish : spicy.
Harvest : 2018.
Grape variety : Colombard. Native to southwestern France, probably a cross between Chenin blanc and Gouais, it's one of the oldest grape varieties in the Charente region. Formerly used to make distillation wines for Cognac production, it was marginalised after the phylloxera crisis. Replaced by Ugni blanc, it began a new career abroad, where it's enjoying growing popularity : it's the second most widely planted white grape variety in California after Chardonnay, second after Chenin in South Africa, and is also found in Australia. This is why we wanted to rediscover it in its country of origin.
Resistant and productive, it produces dry, fine and fruity white wines with aromas of citrus (grapefruit, lemon) and exotic fruits.
Cru : Bons Bois. The soil is clay-limestone, with a vein of Upper Campanian limestone, dating from the last period of the Mesozoic era (70 to 65 million years ago), when dinosaurs and ammonites became extinct. The presence of this limestone helps to retain excess water from rainfall and release it to the vines during periods of high heat.
Without added sugar or caramel, un-chillfiltered.
