The Renorville chapel, a unique heritage that has spanned the centuries.

According to archives dating back to the 12th century, the Renorville chapel was built at the request of Guillaume Taillefer, a pious knight who returned from the crusade.

Renorville was built in Angles, between Salles-d'Angles and Saint-Fort-sur-le-Né, on the edge of a valley made up of meadows leading to the Renorville river "called miraculous", one of the small tributaries of the Né.

The discovery of Cognac ageing.

Legend has it that towards the end of the 16th century, a knight of great renown gave two barrels of his eau-de-vie to the monks of the Renorville chapel. It wasn't until the 17th century, one April morning, when the monks were making an inventory of the chapel, that they found a barrel forgotten under the cloister.

When they removed the bung, they realised that a large part of the distilled wine had evaporated: La Part des Anges. They lifted the glass from the barrel, and before their astonished eyes, a miracle : the white brandy had become Cognac.
And so, in the region, the legend of the origin of ‘the discovery of the ageing of Cognac brandy’ has been perpetuated.
